  • Aplicar el extintor de incendios sobre la base del fuego, mientras conservas el recipiente en posición vertical. De lo contrario el contenido se dirigirá al aire y no al material que se encuentra en llamas.
  • Realizar movimientos de izquierda a derecha, siempre sobre la base.

  • Boquilla: Se encuentra en el extremo de la manguera del equipo. Gracias a esta parte del extintor de incendios se puede dirigir su contenido de forma más directa hacia la fuente del incendio. También permite graduar la fuerza con la cual se libera el producto de la botella.
  • Cilindro, botella o tanque: Es la mayor parte del cuerpo del matafuegos. Aunque en muchos casos es de color rojo, según su tipo también puede ser verde o amarillo. Su función es permitir dirigir el contenido del extintor de incendios en la dirección que se desea. De esta manera, puede aplicarse de forma controlada y directa sobre el lugar necesario para apagar el fuego.
  • Manómetro: Mediante la lectura de este instrumento es posible determinar el nivel de presión que tiene el gas presurizador del matafuegos. Esta es una parte común de todos los extintores de incendios y tiene a su vez otra, una aguja que indica el grado de presión. Lo normal es que se encuentre en verde, una señal de que el equipo está en óptimo estado. Cuando la aguja está en rojo indica un desperfecto.
  • Nitrógeno: La función de este ingrediente gaseoso, que se encuentra en el interior del tanque, es conservar la presión que se requiere para que el químico que actúa como extintor salga de forma apropiada del cilindro.
  • Palanca de disparo: Una palanca no muy grande, la cual hay que presionar como una especie de gatillo para lograr accionar el matafuegos, de manera que se libere el agente extintor desde el interior del tanque. Para hacerlo, es necesario retirar previamente la anilla de seguridad, de lo contrario no podrá utilizarse el equipo.
  • Tubo de sifón: Este es una parte del extintor de incendios que no podrás ver, ya que está ubicada en el interior del tanque. Es a través de este tubo que el agente extintor viaja hasta el exterior.
  • Válvula de salida: Se encuentra conectada directamente a la palanca de disparo y al tanque. Esta pieza metáliza de color cobrizo hace posible que ingrediente activo del matafuegos se expulsado desde interior del cilindro hacia el exterior.
